Hex Gems is evolving into something bigger and better than ever before. Something that'll also hopefully excite you!!

What started as a chaotic game played with our friends and family is now entering its next era: a full-blown, richly strategic, experiential, as social as before and crazy fun battle-strategy card game. With Hex Gems v2, the game deepens, sharpens, and expands, not just in mechanics, but in scope, too! And game length, but we hope that's just as much of a positive!

 

First of all, v2 adds tons more chaos to the brewing system.

 

It introduces three mysterious new attributes, Heal, Lifesteal, and Toxic, each tied to its own Gem, Plate, and Add-On, just as in v1. Heal lets you unflip your hearts, a common complaint we got and overall weakpoint that this should fix. Lifesteal lets you temporarily steal hearts from someone else. And Toxic? It lingers, punishing enemies over time like radiation, and opening new strategic windows to eliminate other players quickly.

 

These new attributes don’t just make spells stronger—they open up entirely new strategies, allowing players to fight smarter, stall harder, or corrupt the rhythm of the table.

Other new mechanics like Buffs and Potion Bottles push the system even further. Buffs twist the rules of spells—letting them double their power, break through defenses, or hit multiple players at once. Potion Bottles, on the other hand, are cast using only Add-Ons, finally giving these overlooked and accumulating cards a powerful new role in the Hex Gems gameplay.

 

But Hex Gems v2 doesn’t stop at cooler spellcasting. The world itself has grown up and scaled with the size of the game.

 

Players can now spend the game's brand new currency, Soul Tokens, in two shops: the rotating Merchant, where they’ll find powerful one-use Items that allow for shenanigans of all kinds, Perks to add permanent effects that give you unique advantages and powers, and even the infamous Bakery, a one-item-at-a-time healing shop where pastries may restore your life—or come with a price you weren’t ready to pay. ​

One of the main development principles of Hex Gems v2 is to fix what didn't work from v1 by extending. This means a lot of the original systems have been deepened too. In other words, it isn't just "new new new". We want to make the game the best it can be, and that also means fixing things where they need to be fixed. And, by this logic, we're also making sure the game remains extensible and modular. That way, we can add new content or even expansions if we ever want to, depending on how well the game is received!

And better yet, all of this is built on the foundations present in the current version of Hex Gems: an open-handed, last-one-standing game of survival, betrayal, and magically chaotic card combinations.

 

And as we prepare for this new chapter, the original version of the game will step into its own spotlight under a new name: Hex Gems Lite. This version, the version you all know and love, will remain the version that's faster, simpler, and built for parties, families, and casual groups. Not only that, but it will also exist as an easy entry point for new players who need a first step towards v2. It keeps the core of the game alive, while v2 builds upward and outward from it.

Because now, it’s not just about testing the game with friends and family.

We're beginning the search for Hex Gems' wider world—the community, the players, and the chaos-lovers who’ve been waiting for something like this.

 

Because of all this, I'm sure you might understand why the release of v2 is still a little while away. It'll be a few months before you can order your own Hex Gems box of the new version.

But we can assure you that development is well underway, testing is in full swing, and the work has seriously begun.
